what is hypnotherapy?

It has been said that the unconscious mind makes a terrific servant but a lousy master! Or that the unconscious mind is like a fertile soil and that whatever is planted in that soil has no other option than to grow. Hypnosis is a tool that a qualified therapist can use to bypass the critical factor of our conscious mind, the part of us that has limiting beliefs, and with hypnotic language and suggestions can ‘plant’ the seed of an idea, an outcome or goal to be obtained. Simply put, what the mind agrees with, the body responds to.

In a clinical setting, hypnosis is used while the physical body and conscious mind are in a relaxed state while the subconscious mind remains in a heightened state of suggestibility. The experience is different for different people, and at different times. Typically, however, hypnosis is associated with feeling comfortably relaxed and is similar to the pleasant sensation of being in a daydream. Deep hypnotic relaxation is similar in some ways to the kind of profound trance found in expert yoga or meditation practitioners and 10% of the population are natural somnambulists, meaning they quickly and easily enter a very deep hypnotic trance state.

When undertaking treatment with a qualified professional, hypnotherapy is safe, beneficial and positive. In clinical hypnotherapy clients are never asked to do anything embarrassing or against their will. The client is always in control and can halt a session at any times – just as you can bring yourself out of a daydream or meditation. It is impossible to get ‘stuck’ in a state of hypnosis.

sub-conscious mind healing

Many issues can be treated with 3 – 6 sessions and often within the privacy of the client’s own mind. Creating successful change is often facilitated with a three-part program called Sub-Conscious Mind Healing, which is integrated into a client’s treatment plan over a 3 – 4 week period. Depending on the individual needs of each client, a couple of follow up sessions may be necessary to cement new processes and reinforce the changes.
